FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham FORCE is celebrating recovery this month with an event dedicated to substance use recovery. The “Celebrate Recovery in September” event will be Sept. 22 at Farm Pond from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
“Our event at Farm Pond will celebrate and showcase recovery within our community,” said Cathy Miles, Board Chair.
Every September, The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), sponsors Recovery Month to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance use disorders and celebrate the people who recover.
The event will feature Senate President Karen Spilka and Framingham Mayor Yvonne Spicer, and state and local elected officials, as well as local healthcare providers and non-profits, which align with Framingham FORCE’s mission.
In addition to the Celebrate Recovery event, FORCE collaborated with the Framingham Public Library on a Recovery and Substance Use Disorder booklist and display.
Established last year, Framingham FORCE is a group of local Framingham advocates and community members focused on increasing awareness, education and compassion surrounding the opioid epidemic. Over the last ten months, we have sponsored a community vigil remembering those who lost their lives to substance use disorder, hosted the Opioid Project in the Memorial Building and promoted the use of language that de-stigmatizes the disease of substance use disorder through the Words Matter project.
